The Everglades

This trip was ma first visit to Florida. The only place in the US I had been before was New York. We only had 14 days, I had packed this trip with so much hotel changes and places. In fact, we needed a holiday after this one because I was so stressed to make the most possible out of Florida. Does this happen to you guys too?

After leaving Key Largo, we had one night at a random hotel, got up in the morning and drove to the Everglades. Friends who had visited a few weeks ahead o us told us to skip the big commercial tours and do one with Buffalo Tiger.

The tip was great, Hubs and I were the only one on the airboat. We saw a lot of alligators and learned a bit about the Everglades.

After leaving with the airboat in sunshine, a thunderstorm came up and we ended up soaked wet. However it was a great experience i don´t want to miss.

Key West

It was hard to convince the hubs to spend some days with me in Key West. After all, he agreed to one night. One night and one day at Key West, can you imagine?

But I can tell you, he did regret it.

The drive over Highway 1 is breathtaking. We really did enjoy the view the whole time.

We arrived late afternoon and had a drink near our hotel and listend to live bands. As we were really hungry and had no idea where to eat, we ended up at the Hard Rock Cafe. The food was ok, our tummies were full and the place was nice.

The next morning we explored a bit of the Keys, walked to the most southern point and enjoy a bit of our day.

As we drove back to Miami, we had lunch at the Island Grill at Key Largo which was fabulous. The setting was great and so was the food. It was the first time I had Mahi Mahi and it was so delicious. If you ask B., you have to try the fried Cheesecake.

Sun care

I´m so pale. Like a ghost. B. gets the most beautiful tan and I look like a didn´t join him in the holidays or stayed the whole time in our room.

That said I have to take extra care of my skin. I burn easily and as much as I love the sun, I don't want wrinkles or sunspots and not to think of the worst, skin cancer.

Here are the products I use to get a light tan and keep it as long as possible.

Please keep in mind that this works for me, I only can talk for myself.

As I said, I burn really easily so spf 50 is a must for me. I´m a big fan of these Clarins one. I tried other brands but none convinced me like this one. What I love is that the bottle is a spray milk. This face creme gives the right amount of moisture without making you look greasy.

After the sunbath and a shower I like to coat my skin in the Tan Maximizer by Lancome. It hydrates the skin and is supposed to extend the tan. I use the creme for my face and the spray for the body. For me it works fine.

This s the first year were i´m going to prep my skin for the upcoming holidays. This water by Lancaster is applied two weeks prior to sun exposure on a daily basis to your skin and is supposed to help get an even tan. We´ll see.

Enjoy your holidays,

Cozumel

Both B. and I left a piece of our hearts in Cozumel. It is such a lovely island.

It was very hot on our visit. We had taken a shore excursion which took us to a rebuild mayan village, to an old church an to the most beautiful beaches. Unfortunately, we only stopped at the beaches for a few minutes so that we could´nt cool down in the sea.

Afterwards, B. and I took a cab to downtown Cozumel where we browsed the shops and had lunch at the Thirsty Cougar. It was such a nice spot to sit down, eat, drink and watch the people.

Jamaica

The second island we visited with the Oasis of the Seas was Jamaica. After a small security check on land we were in an enclose shopping area were you could shop, eat, drink or just browse the shops.

Here we had booked a shore excursion taking us to the Good Hope Great House were we were shown the house, learned a bit about his history and had lunch.

Unfortunatly, I forgot a lot what we were told.  What stayed on my mind is that the Good Hope Estate was a sugar plantation and that the owner had build the house for his wife. Unfortunately, his wife died very young and was buried beneath the ground floor. Sad story.

The lunch they offered was fine. It was a bit from everything what the jamaican kitchen had to offer.

First stop: Labadee

Our first stop was Labadee, Haiti.

Labadee is a private beach on the north coast of the island.

We didn´t book any tour with Royal Caribbeans shore excursion but decided to have a look around the island on our own.

It turned out, the place we stayed wasn´t that big and was an enclosed resort. A lot of haitiens have small shops were they sell some of their craft.

We took a walk around the resort, did some snorkeling and spend some time on the beach.

Oasis of the Seas

Neither hubby nor I have ever been on a cruise ship before. In 2012 I saw an article about the worlds biggest cruise ship on the internet. It was always my wish to go on cruise but it was impossible to convince the hubs, B., to do one. I showed him photos of the Oasis and he was convinced to try out this cruise thing.

He immediately booked a cruise to the caribbean, followed by a road trip through Florida.

After this, we both were hooked on cruises. In a few days we are going on our 5th one in 3 years. Can you believe?

Here some facts about the ship:

The ship weights 225000 gross tons, is 1187 feet long and 208 feet wide. It can hold up to 6296 and 2196 crew members.

As I said, in 2012 it was the biggest cruise ship, now the Harmony of the Seas and the Allure of the Seas are even bigger.

Have you ever been on a cruise? If so, which one was our favorite?
